It's National Emergency Medical Services Week and Wednesday night local EMS providers held their third annual banquet at the Double Tree Hotel in Charlottesville.
The awards were given to local workers who have demonstrated outstanding service in their communities.
EMS nominees came from a number of local counties including Madison, Green, Fluvanna, Nelson, and Albemarle counties.
Winners from twelve categories will go on to compete in the governor's state awards ceremony in November.
"Anybody can be nominated that fits in the category you think they fit in," explained Mary Kathryn Allen, the Executive Director of the Thomas Jefferson EMS Council. "I have a committee set up of past winners and they look over it and they determine who the winners are.."
Award categories include Excellence in EMS, Outstanding Nurse, and one category recognizes a high school senior for their service. That individual wins a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.
