Testing for the AIDS virus could one day become part of a routine physical exam for teends and adults. The Centers for Disease Control is expected to issue new guidelines for voluntary testing by this summer.

CDC officials said a quarter million Americans have AIDS and don't even know it. Officials from the AIDS/HIV Services Group of Charlottesville said the numbers may be true, but this type of testing won't help.

"The larger majority of people who have HIV infection and do not know it are probably in those groups of people who have no access to routine medical care," said Kathy Baker, the Director of the AIDS/HIV Services Group.

The AIDS/HIV Services Group offers free testing at their facility.
