Dozens gathered to usher in a new era for the Nursing Department at UVA.
The Claude Moore Nursing Education Building was officially dedicated Friday morning.
It's the first new nursing building at the University in 35 years.
President John Casteen, trustees from the Claude Moore Foundation, and donors gave speeches.
"It was very important to show support for nurses and nursing in the community by having the highest level of leadership here at the University to attend today," said Dorrie Fontaine, the new Dean of Nursing.
The ceremony was also a passing of the torch from the previous Dean, Jeannete Lancaster, to the new dean, Dorrie Fontaine.
Ms. Lancaster was praised for helping to raise money for the new building.
