Friday night, Charlottesville police are confirming that the gang "The Bloods" is recruiting members in the city.

Police said some members of "The Bloods" have moved to the area and that an alleged gang beating last month has now been tied to the national gang.

Police began their investigation into "The Bloods" when two teens were severely beaten near Garrett Street in April by a group of men wearing red. The teens told police that they were attacked for refusing to join the gang "The Blood." Police weren't sure if this was the work of "The Bloods" but tonight say they now know for sure that it was the first criminal act by this gang in this area.

“We hope they don't establish a real foothold here in Charlottesville [and] we hope that we've been fortunate enough to identify some of the people that may possibly be here trying to recruit early,” said Charlottesville police Captain Chip Harding.

Police arrested two more teens in connections with the alleged gang beating Thursday; now six teens are facing charges of malicious wounding and being a part of a criminal street gang.

Friday morning a judge detained the two teens arrested Thursday until their trial. In fact, all six teens charged remain behind bars.

Police say their investigation continues and more arrests may be coming.
