New Study Could Increase Women's Sexual Desire
You've likely heard of Viagra and Cialis; drugs that provide men with a little extra assistance in the bedroom. But for women dealing with a low sex drive, researchers are still looking for a good solution. Doctors at the University of Virginia are on the case.

"Women have a hard time talking about their sexual problems. They have a hard time bringing it up with their physician," said Dr. Anita Clayton, a professor of Psychiatric Medicine.
It's very common for women going through menopause to experience low sex drive.
"We will enroll 25 women here in the study," said Clayton, "There are 100 sites around the country also enrolling women. Were looking at women who have had a hysterectomy, had their ovaries removed, and are therefore post-menopausal. And as a result they have low sexual desire."
If approved, the product being tested could potentially increase woman's sex drive and would be available by prescription.
"Libigel is a gel and women apply it to the skin on their outer arm consistently every day. It really does require daily application," said Clayton.
There are already treatments for men who suffer from similar problems. But, a product for women does not exist.
"There are testosterone products available for men now. Men who have low testosterone can get a gel, they can get injections. But, none of them are dosed appropriately for women," said Clayton.
Women could also see improvement in many aspects of their life.
"Trying to develop something that would help women see restoration of their sexual functioning the way it was before, relieves their distress, improves their relationships and improves their overall general health," said Clayton.
