A man digging is to blame for a gas leak that occurred in Charlottesville earlier this evening. It happened just after 8 p.m. in the 600 block of Locust Avenue.
Fire officials say a man was digging around the foundation of his home when he struck a gas service line. The leak dissipated quickly however three homes were evacuated for about 30 minutes while firefighters checked the area.
No one was injured in the incident. Two blocks of Locust Avenue were also closed during the incident.
