Planting trees was part of the lesson plan at Ivy Creek School.
Albemarle County Firefighters helped a dozen kids dig holes and pat the soil, in order to plant the perfect tree in honor of Arbor Day.
It is traditionally a day to celebrate the beauty of trees. Ivy Creek officials said it gave the kids a chance to connect with others.
"By doing this they're sort of giving back to the community, connecting with the community and feeling [like they are a part of it], which is really important for them as they grow," said Nicholas Smith, the Principal at Ivy Creek School.
This event was sponsored by the Doubletree Hotel.
