The State Fair of Virginia is gearing up for its final year in Richmond before moving to Caroline County.

The fair opens September 25th and runs through October 5th. It has been held at the Richmond International Raceway since 1946.

The organization broke ground for its new complex at The Meadow Event Park in Doswell near Kings Dominion in April. The first phase of the fair's new home is scheduled for be ready next August.

In 2004 the State Fair of Virginia took possession of The Meadow Event Park, the birthplace of 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat. An $81 million project there will include new construction and
redevelopment of existing facilities.

The Virginia State Fair isn't in Richmond, it's never been in Richmond. It's in Henrico County. It's been there since 1943. Henrico is not Richmond.
