Local Veterans are being honored in Scottsville just in time for Memorial Day.

After one year of fundraising, local groups have finally come up with the $6,000 they need to erect the monument in Dorrier Park. Today it was set in place, but will officially be dedicated this fall.

"Showing respect for our Veterans because there is so many Veterans from this area that have laid their lives down for our country," said Lewis Farrish Commander of VFW Post 8169 in Scottsville.

Organizers say they still need to raise $4,000 to put up a flag, which will be lit 24-hours a day.
