Update: Peter Lalich Off the Football Team

University of Virginia Quarterback Peter Lalich is no longer a member of the team.
The move comes after Lalich appeared in Charlottesville General District Court today and admitted to drinking alcohol while on his probation. His hearing had been scheduled for September 26, but was moved up at the request of his attorney.
Lalich says that he drank to celebrate the end of training camp and he misunderstood the terms of his probation, thinking he could drink as long as he did not get arrested. The sophomore offered an apology, and also echoed statements that he never used drugs while on probation.
After considering the evidence, Judge Robert Downer ordered that the case be continued until July 21 of next year, the original date that had been set. If Lalich does not violate the terms of his probation between now and then, the charges will be dropped. However, if he violates the terms of his probation again, he will face a 500 dollar fine or 50 hours of community service.
University of Virginia Athletics confirmed late Thursday evening that Lalich was removed from the team.
“Peter Lalich is no longer a member of the University of Virginia football team," said Craig Littlepage, UVa Athletic Director. " We have supported Peter, but believe today a point has been reached where it’s best for all concerned that he no longer participate on the team. This is my decision and it has the support of head football coach Al Groh. We wish Peter the best in the future. We will have no further comment.”
“Any time a situation doesn’t work out in the most positive way for any player it’s regrettable, but we stand united with this decision," said Head Coach Al Groh.
