Charlottesville Police say a 12-year-old boy was awakened by a man trying to put duct tape over his mouth. This happened at about 1:30 Friday morning in the 2300 block of Shelby Drive. Police say the boys screams woke his parents and older brother, but the suspect fled before they got to the boys room.

Police say there is no telling what the man was planning. "It's hard to say if he had been successful getting the tape over the child's mouth before he had awakened exactly what would have happened. I'm glad we are not here today facing what may have happened," said Charlottesville Police Captain Chip Harding.

A similar incident occurred on May 13 on the same block of Shelby Drive. Police say a man was awakened when someone stuck their hand through an open window into his bedroom. Earlier that day, a man was seen trying to break into the house involved in Friday's incident.

Anyone with information should call Detective Jim Mooney at 434-970-3374 or Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
