Power is finally back on this morning after a massive outage in the Pantops area last night. The outage happened just before 11 p.m. last night. According to Dominion Virginia Power, there was a malfunction in one of the substations that knocked power out to about 1,500 customers. One eyewitness, in the 1900 block of Tremont Drive says he saw an explosion and fire in his backyard.
"I first told my wife to call 911 to get the fire department. Secondly, I went out and got my hose, and went out all the way to try and put [the fire] out. Fortunately, I was successful," said resident John O'Connell.
O'Connell believes a fall tree limb ripped power lines down causing the outage. No one was injured in the incident. Power was restored by the early morning hours.
