One of the best high schools in America is right in our area.
Newsweek Magazine ranked Charlottesville High School in the top five percent of high schools in the country.
School officials said the rank was based on the number of advanced placement tests the students took last year, divided by the number of graduating seniors.
"It's quite an honor for a school of this size and it speaks a lot to the achievement level of our students, as well as the support of the community for education, parents, and obviously the staff at the high school," said Kenneth Leatherwood, the CHS Principal.
School officials said the schools that were recognized did their best to prepare average students for college.
