If you're a baseball fan, this is you're lucky weekend. The NCAA Baseball Tournament kicked off at Davenport Field Friday afternoon.

Friday evening UVA won the game, but there were fans with winning attitudes, even before UVA chalked up the win.

"Baseball's, like, the greatest sport on the earth," exclaimed 11-year-old Brett Bickley. "And you should go because it's an awesome experience."

With a sales-pitch like his, who wouldn't want to come out and see one of the games in the weekend's tournament?

"We're seeing some of the best teams in the country," said Donnie Bickley. "Some of the best players in the country, and anybody who likes baseball-- even if you don't like baseball-- it's a great, great atmosphere."

That atmosphere was filled with local fans as well as some out-of-towners. This weekend is UVA's Reunion Weekend, so a number of alumni were in town for alumni events on the school's main grounds. But today at least one alum kicked off her weekend by checking out the action on the field.

"We thought it'd be a great activity to come to to support the baseball team, and see the new stadium, have some fun," said Jody Myers, who is in town this weekend for her 20-year reunion at UVA.

And in the hot sticky weather, fans were making lots of trips to the concession stands.

"It's fun to come watch the game, sell ice cream, make a little money, have a little fun," said David Verell, who is the franchise owner of the "Dippin' Dots" at Davenport Field and other UVA sporting events.

If you are planning to head out to see one of the games this weekend, eleven year-old Brett Bickley, says the one must-have piece of UVA gear is a team hat.

"In case it rains, it helps to protect your head, and it protects from the sun, and it has a cool logo on it," he said.

If fans did not make it to Friday's game, they still have a couple more chances. There will be at least five more games between through the end of the weekend.
