Albemarle County and Charlottesville Police Departments pitched in to help the Special Olympics of Virginia. The members of the two department met in Albemarle County to prepare for the 21st Annual Torch Run.
The Torch Run, which is the biggest fund-raising event for the Special Olympics, includes 3,000 law enforcement officers who run across 1900 miles of Virginia's roads. The officers carry a torch to keep the spot light on kids involved with the Special Olympics. The officers hand the torch over city to city, and town by town, until the torch ends up at the opening ceremonies of the Summer Games.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers from local, county, state and federal agencies raised more than $800,000 as they ran the torch across the state.
