Virginia State Police investigated a fatal accident in Louisa County Tuesday afternoon.

Route 33 was closed in both directions near the intersection of Route 601 because of the accident. The scene was a couple miles from Hanover County border.

Virginia State Police say the victim--58-year-old Kenneth Perry of Bumpass, VA--was driving west on Rt. 33 before the intersection with Rt. 601 when he lost control of his vehicle and got slammed by a dump truck. He died at the scene.

"A Chevy Cavalier which was traveling westbound on Route 33 drifted into [the truck's] travel lane. In an attempt to overcorrect, he was broadsided by the tractor trailer, and he died as a result of his injuries on the accident scene," explained Virginia State Police Trooper Matthew Riley.

Environmental engineers helped to remove the diesel fuel that leaked so that it wouldn't contaminate the surrounding well water.
