Charlottesville is showing kids how to keep their water supply clean and safe in the future.
The city partnered with the Rivanna Conservation Society to work on the Meadowcreek Restoration Project Saturday, to teach kids about stream water.
They learned about biological and chemical monitoring by the stream in the Greenbrier Park..
Organizers hope the project will help reduce storm water damage and erosion from runoff.
"I think it's really important to conserve our water to make sure it's clean so we all have healthy water to drink," said Shelby Edwards, a Buford Middle School Student at Saturday's summit. "They're showing us where the water is dirty, and by planting trees, it slowly gets clean."
Once the Meadowcreek Restoration Project is finished, there will be another watershed youth summit where kids will learn how the stream has changed.
