On Sunday some local kids explained what makes their dad and Father's Day so special.

"My dad really means everything to me, and he does so much for us," said 12-year-old Emily Pribus. "So I think it's important that we have a day to celebrate them."

"I think it means a lot to me because my dad really helps out around the house and he helps me a lot," explained 9-year-old Taylor Dahl.

Some daughters said they needed some help picking out a gift for dad. It can be a lot harder than picking out one for mom.

Makayla Anderson said that was because, "Father's don't get all that girly stuff and all the flowers and stuff."

But regardless of what kind of gift they get father's said it was just nice to be thought of on their day.

"Oh it makes me feel good," said Dwayne Greenwood, who was enjoying the afternoon with his son. "It makes us feel appreciated. The ones that are being fathers, it makes us feel really appreciated."

And after a lot of thinking one daughter was able to come up with a pretty good reason why her dad was special.

"He's my dad, my special dad, and he loves me no matter what I look like, how I act, or anything else," said Tianna Washington.

Father's Day started in Spokane, Washington in 1910, but it wasn't officially named a national holiday until President Johnson made a proclamation in 1966.
