The wicked weather and pounding rain that moved through Friday night caused problems on a number of roads in Albemarle County. On Saturday VDOT worked to clean up the mess.
VDOT said some areas of southern Albemarle County got as much as nine inches of rain Friday night in just a few hours.
At one point some two dozen roads were covered with water. On unpaved roads, gravel was completely washed away in places. VDOT says because it's been so dry, much of the rain flowed down hillsides and across roads, causing some major erosion.
Storm drains are also clogged, which added to the flooding.
Saturday evening VDOT reported that all roads in Albemarle County were open again.
Crews will also keep an eye on the rest of the weekend's weather. They'll be standing by to deal with any more rain, and to get to work on any new problems that could come up.
