Today many local high school students prepared for a week of 8-hour days rebuilding homes for the community.

"Seek Him, Find Him, and Serve Him" is the motto of this year's annual Work Camp. The camp, that consists of over 500 people from area Catholic parishes, will work to repair homes in and around the city of Orange.

Over 300 high school students are taking part in a week long Work Camp to help improve and repair houses in the surrounding counties.

"We go into homes and try to make them safer, warmer, or drier. So all the work that we do is always supposed to be for one of those purposes, it's not cosmetic," Kevin Bohli said, Director of Youth Ministries.

Today, the students had lessons in group building activities and prepared their equipment, as well as took part in a safety training course.

Sixty teams of high school teens, adults, and professional contractors are volunteering their time to work on 65 different homes.

"The contractors are all full time contractors who have volunteered to come here for the week. Some of them are class A builders, some are electricians, some are plumbers, but they've given up a whole week of their livelihood to come here to spend the time with us. The amazing thing is they keep coming back," Bohli continued.

The camp, which is in it's 18th year, is designed to teach students the value in helping others while giving back to their community.

The event is actually a year long process. The students had to apply back in January and then take courses throughout the year on safety, social justice, as well as learn how to do the actual work.

They have also been busy fundraising since it costs each student $400 to attend. The group will be coming to Greene County on Wednesday to work on the Head Start building, which offers educational and childhood development services to families around the area.
