Tonight two Albemarle County men are under arrest after police seized thousands of dollars in drugs and weapons.
Police confiscated $50,000 in marijuana plants, 20 fire arms and thousands in cash from a home on Broad Axe Road in Albemarle County.
“It came in through an anonymous source and then [we] actually verified the plants were there by flying over the property in a helicopter,” said JADE Task Force Detective John Seitz.
A search of the area in a helicopter and police say they saw the marijuana plants growing in the back yard of the home. They got a search warrant and this morning confiscated 43 marijuana plants, 17 rifles, three hand guns and over $3,000 in cash.
“We had indication inside the house that he was intending to distribute the marijuana, scales, baggies, a large amount of currency found inside the safe in the residence,” said Seitz.
The jade task force arrested Dennis Forbes and charged him with manufacturing marijuana. Also arrested was Randall Lee Herring, he's charged with possessing marijuana. Both men also face fire arms charges and police say this was a large bust but there's more work to do.
“There's a lot of marijuana growing in Albemarle County and we're yet to find it but we'll get it soon,” said Seitz.
Both men arrested are no strangers to the law. They are convicted felons and now face a mandatory five year sentence if convicted on those fire arms charge.
Forbes and Herring are being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville regional jail awaiting a bond hearing tomorrow morning.
