The Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional jail has teamed up with PVCC to offer college credit to inmates. About a dozen inmates are enrolled. Right now, they’re only offering a study skills class, but jail officials say they plan to add more classes soon. They say the inmates seem optimistic about turning a negative into a positive.
"It's a very positive thing that sort of spreads throughout across the board and we're just looking for bigger and better things to happen," said Maj. Roland Beauford, Program Organizer.
Officials say inmates can earn anywhere from one to four PVCC credits per course.
