If you're planning a vacation this summer--there's no need to leave the kids behind.
Jeff Alt and his wife took their 20-month-old baby on a 55-mile hike through Ireland. They strapped their daughter into a pack filled with toys, books, and plenty of sunscreen. They dressed her in all synthetic clothing, not cotton, to keep her warm and dry.
While it was great exercise, Alt said it was an even better family experience.
"To walk as a family you know is just a bonding experience. We're sharing what we do with her and she was enjoying that and that was important for us," said Jeff Alt who wrote A Hike With Mike.
Alt suggests staying indoors at night when traveling with a small child.
