(AP) - Dominion Virginia Power has shut down its North Anna 2 reactor in Louisa County because of what the utility described as a faulty transformer.
Company spokesman Richard Zuercher said Thursday that the reactor went offline September 13 for what was called a routine refueling, and was being restored to full power this week when the problem was discovered.
Virginia Power will replace the main transformer, but Zuercher declined to specify when the company will try to restart the reactor.
North Anna's Unit 1 continues to operate at full power.
Each of North Anna's two units is refueled about every 18 months on an alternating schedule. Refueling typically takes four to six weeks.
