It was a big day for the local McCain and Obama campaigns. Volunteers from both sides spent the day making phone calls, going door to door and helping in any way they can.
"We just want to contact people who have said they might vote McCain and to remind them to vote and that we would really appreciate their vote for McCain on Tuesday," said Bill Wilkerson a McCain supporter.
At the Republican Headquarters in Albemarle County, there is about 50 volunteers in and out of the office all day. These volunteers are determined to pull ahead.
"No one's given up. It's a hard fight. Virginia is a battleground and Albemarle is a battleground county within Virginia. Everyone is playing their a game to pull it out," said Chris Schoenewald, Chairman of the Albemarle County Republican Committee.
Just down the road at one of the Obama launch points, volunteers are pounding the pavement too.
"I've been involved in campaigns for most of my adult life and I've never seen a response like we have this year. The Democratic party will have over 500 people knocking on doors just in Albemarle and Charlottesville this weekend. And that is an amazing number," said David Slutzky of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.
People are pouring in from outside the Commonwealth to help canvas for Obama. Jody Westbrook grew up in Virginia but now lives in California.
"I am just so excited about this campaign. I can't believe that Virginia might go for Obama this year. So I just really wanted to come and do what I could to get out the vote and make sure Virginia goes for Obama," said Jody Westbrook, an Obama supporter.
The big day is near and volunteers from both sides will keep working until the very last minute.
