Folks who aren't able to find activities to help them cool down can just stay inside near the AC. Air conditioners are a necessity that most people take for granted, but not everyone has the luxury of the cool indoors as the temperature gets hotter. For some residents, that isn't even an option.
Mark Carson has spent the past 18 years without air conditioning and said this summer has been the worst he's endured yet. He said he has to come up with creative ways to endure the summer heat.
"I take a slightly warm shower and then I decrease the temperature to a nice cool shower and then I just kind of relax. I have my fans running...We're blessed because we have trees around us so we can draw air from the trees through the windows and it makes it a lot cooler," Carson said.
The Jefferson Area Board of Aging, which offers a cool aid program for people without air conditioning units, say it's been their busiest year yet with 70 people still waiting for units to be installed or replaced.
