Charlottesville police are giving the public a first hand look at what it’s like to be a police officer.

This is the third year they will offer a citizen's police academy where people just like you get to see how the police department is run. The program is 10 weeks starting September 13 at the Marriott hotel on West Main St.

"We have two speakers each night. We run the full gamut, from the patrol division, to investigations. We talk about forensics, which always seems to be a really popular topic these days," explained Lt. Mike Dean of the Charlottesville Police.

It runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and a box lunch is provided. If you're interested in signing up call Lt. Mike Dean at 434-970-3975 or Email
