The Jefferson Area Board for Aging is being recognized for its role in saving Mountainside Senior Living.
The National Association of Area Agencies is honoring JABA with an award for stepping in to help the assisted living facility five years ago. Mountainside was preparing to close its doors and leave about 140 elderly people homeless.
"JABA's primary responsibility is to provide an opportunity for people to live at home for as long as possible and for the people that live [at Mountainside] this is their home," said Gordon Walker, JABA's CEO.
Walker is flying to Chicago tomorrow to receive the award.
