Police in the town of Orange are trying to find out who shot and killed a man there last night.
It all started shortly before midnight Friday night, when police responded to a call of "shots fired." When they arrived on scene at 272 Lindsey Drive, they found an unconscious man. He'd been shot multiple times.
He's been identified as Johnell Green, 25, of Orange.
Greene was taken to the Orange Fire Department where he was to be flown to UVA Medical Center, but it was around 12:30 a.m., before he was even life-flighted, when Greene was pronounced dead.
Saturday police talked with witnesses. They also said, from past incidents, they are familiar with the victim and others that may be involved.
The Town of Orange Police Chief also said he believes they'll bring this case to a close very shortly.
"This situation has been simmering for quite a while," said Orange Police Chief James L. Fenwick. "Some of the people we're looking at involved have had prior history, which this whole act may be stemming from."
Chief Fenwick also said that Greene was just released from jail Friday morning, just hours before he was shot and killed. The chief would not comment on any of Greene's previous charges, although he said Green had a run-in with police as recently as June of this year.
Police are asking for anyone with information to contact Orange County Crime Solvers at (540) 672-7200.
