Some students at the University of Virginia try to get in the Guiness Book of World Records Friday. They braved the frigid weather to play a massive game of tag.
All the proceeds go to the UVA Children's Hospital, and the ATO fraternity organized the event with the goal of donating $5,000.
The game certainly was a challenge. Ten varsity cross-country runners started the game as the "It", and they needed 250 people to play to break the record.
Michael Brown, the Philanthropy Chair of ATO and tag organizer said, "We thought of doing a children's game, and so the idea of tag came along."
Leah Paisner, First Year student at UVA was simply thrilled for the opportunity to get in the record book, "I was looking up the book online the other day, and just being up there with the most tattooed person in the world and a bunch of long eared rabbits seemed pretty cool."
They ultimately fell just short of the record. About 140 people played. However organizers say they appreciate everyone coming out in the cold, and they're happy with the money they made.
"They have singlehandedly pulled this off. They had the idea themselves, " said Amy Wicks-Horn of the UVa Children's Hospital. "They implemented everything themselves, and it's their passion that's going to help the kids today."
