The Monticello Cup Wine Competition was held Tuesday at the Boars Head Inn. Participants were from four vineyards surrounding Charlottesville, and this competition was pretty stiff.
About 13 judges swirled, sniffed and tasted various wines and then rated them. This year the category of vintage wine was admitted to the competition.
In 2006, we're judging wines from prior vintages, including 2002 which was an excellent year, and 2004 a very good year and 2005, a superb year. The quality of wines, given that series of vintages, is extraordinary,” explained Chad Zakaib, Managing Director from the Jefferson Vineyards.
All of the wines judged today are available at the local wineries and will be on display at the Monticello Wine and Food Festival on Oct.14 and 15.
