The Newsplex learned more Friday afternoon about the woman Douglas Michael Brown was staying with. He's the man police arrested in connection with a fatal crash that killed an off-duty police officer last weekend.

Thursday afternoon Brown was arrested along Whitney Court in the Briarwood subdivision. He was staying with a woman.

According to neighbors, Brown had been seen at the house over the past several days. They say Brown and the woman were involved in a relationship.

Neighbors also say that the woman said she had no idea of Brown's criminal history, or that a state-wide manhunt for him was underway.

The woman reportedly has three daughters, all still in school. As of Friday, they were staying with the woman's ex-husband, out of state.

One neighbor said she spoke with the ex-husband by phone, and he is aware of the situation that unfolded at the home on Thursday afternoon.

The children were supposed to return to Virginia today, but according to neighbors, that is not happening.

Police say charges are pending against the woman.

Neighbors and co-workers said the whole situation was a shock. None have ever had any problems with her before.

As far as Douglas Michael Brown, he is still in the Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Jail. He is expected at a court hearing on Monday.
