An area rescue squad now has an antidote to one of the most deadly poisons.

The Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad has received a drug that treats victims of Cyanide poisoning.

Cyanide poisoning is common during a residential or structural fire.

CARS is only the second emergency medical service in the state to receive the drug from the government. Officials say the drug works amazingly fast.

William Brady, the C.A.R.S Medical Director says, "Now members of CARS can treat the patient right at the scene and potentially save their life. It's a very important intervention for us to have, and we're extremely fortunate to be able to do it."

CARS serves more than 100,000 people a year.
