Traffic is now flowing on Route 29 South in Albemarle County, after it was shut down for about five hours this morning.
A box truck hauling milk lost control just after passing the Albemarle/Greene County line. The truck landed on the driver's side. The driver did not suffer any injuries. It did block both southbound lanes. It happened around 4:20 am.
A truck driver that was not too far behind the box truck commented that sometimes while driving through that stretch, going up and down the small hills in the roadway causes the cargo to shift quickly. The box truck might have lost control on the wet roadway, touched the guardrail and landed on its side.
Traffic was re-routed at Matthew Mills Road and Rt. 29 in Greene County. Hundreds of vehicles then made their way back to Advance Mills Road and then onto Fray's Mills Road, leading them back to Rt. 29.
The box truck had to have its cargo unloaded before the wrecker could move it.
Hollymeade Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. The Greene County Sheriff's Office assisted in traffic control.
