Police Investigate Shooting Of UVa Student

A University of Virginia student is in serious condition after being shot early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened in front of the 4th year student's home on Wertland Street. He was on the phone with his girlfriend when police said 2 men approached him demanding his cell phone.

Just seconds later one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the student in the stomach.

He was taken to UVa Medical Center. The student is in serious condition, but he is expected to recover.

Charlottesville Police said the two men fled the scene with stolen items.
