A Charlottesville teenager is still recovering after a weekend hit and run accident landed him in the hospital.
"All of my arms and my hips [hurt]. Everything just hurts," said 16-year-old Jamal Dowell.
Dowell is sore all over after a car hit him while riding a scooter eastbound on the U.S. 250 Bypass early Saturday morning.
"I heard a car go roar, and then I heard a boom. I did not know what was going on, but it was like I was flipping, and it was just black," said Jamal Dowell.
The 16-year-old remembers hitting the ground and getting up. He also remembers a car stopping, and someone inside offering help.
"It was a woman, and she told me that she was going after the car, and then she sped off," added Jamal Dowell.
The woman kept going. No one has heard from her since.
The teenager limped along the bypass until reaching a hotel. There, someone was able to call police. A report was filed, but info was limited.
Dowell's mother is upset and wants answers.
"I just can't really see how a person can just you know, hit somebody, and leave them there on the road," said Jamal's Mother Dorraine Dowell.
What the Dowell Family can see are the scars and pain in the teenager's eyes.
The boy has a broken ankle, pulled muscle in his neck, and bruises on his legs, arms, and bottom. Proof positive that the accident was bad enough for someone to know it happened.
"Even if they did not see him they know they hit something. The person that hit him know they hit something, and they need to come forward," said Jamal's Grandmother Doris Dowell.
Police and the Dowell Family are asking for your help. If you know anything about the accident they want you to call Crimestoppers. The number is (434) 977-4000.
