PVCC held its graduation ceremony Friday evening at John Paul Jones Arena.

It was Piedmont Virginia Community College's 40th annual commencement ceremony. More than 600 people graduated in the class of 2013, the largest class in the school's history.

Two high school students graduated from PVCC before they graduate from high school. They achieved their associate degrees by using PVCC's dual-enrollment program. Virginia's 23 community colleges and public schools offer the dual-enrollment program, allowing students to earn college credit while attending high school.

"It's pretty cool. I have two sets of cap and gowns hanging next to eachother in my closet. Well, I mean, I'm wearing one. But it's kinda cool," said Bailey Marie McManaway, a high school senior and PVCC graduate with an Associate of Arts degree.

McManaway took classes on PVCC's campus, on her high school campus, and one online course.

"We are so proud of her. It was a lot of hard work on her part," said Kelli Magan, McManaway's mom. "It's a great way to get ahead."

McManaway will graduate from high school next month wearing her other cap and gown. She says she's taking a year off before transferring to college. She's interested in applying to James Madison University.

"I definitely think a lot a lot of students I know in high school could definitely do this," McManaway. "I would just encourage more students to find out about it."

Earlier Friday, nineteen of the class' associate degree recipients received their degrees while incarcerated at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women.
