Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement and Charlottesville Police are investigating a possible drug lab in an apartment complex near UVa grounds. Authorities say all the unknown chemicals have been taken away and the building is safe.

Some apartments were evacuated during the search. There were no reported injuries.

Law enforcement first arrived on the scene around 7:30 pm on Tuesday. They had received a call saying there was a chemical odor coming from one of the apartments. Officials do have suspects, but no arrests have been made, pending chemical tests at a Commonwealth lab in Richmond. It is unknown when those tests will come back.

The complex is called the Grand Marc At The Corner, located at 301 15th Street NW. Hazmat crews set up right inside the entrance to the parking garage and had the left side closed off.

Some residents that were leaving the building this morning said they weren't aware of the situation. Others had received an email around 4 A.M. from the complex stating they would keep them up to date on deveolpments, but currently did not have any information. An apartment complex employee was unable to comment on the situation.

One person was told he could not get his car out of the garage and would have to come back later Tuesday afternoon for it.

There were numerous fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles on scene. A hazmat truck sat in the parking garage driveway until crews cleared out around eight Tuesday morning.

I know those kids and it WAS NOT A [explative] METH LAB! How ridiculous! One kid was a chem nerd and had some random chemicals for doing research at UVA over the summer and somebody got a whiff of nail polish remover and withing 3 hs the DEA along every lettered agency. The kid is innocent stop the rumors and fight back! He is a good kid with a great future...no illegal drugs were found at the apartment, and no pseudophed (like every meth lab in the world has!). The poor soul was evicted for no reason...talk about an over reaction by the police! The total amount of chemicals found could fit in a few small vials. Man those red-neck cops should have something better to do with their time. As for your daughter 3 doors down suffering inexplicable symptoms--no way its related. If it were a real meth lab then yea possibly but still unlikely. Fight the bad press and rumors man! Don't let some power-hungry cops ruin a good kid with a great future.

What the heck is going on down at UVa? This is quite upsetting. My daughter lives 3 doors away from the drug lab and has been experiencing some very weird reactions that doctors cannot explain. Could she have been affected by the drug lab?

Drugs are a bigger problem at UVA than anyone is willing to admit.
