In these rough economic times, just staying in business is honor enough for most companies, but some continue to do much more than just keep the doors open. They contribute mightily to our community and are honored in return.
Making payroll, paying taxes and giving back in countless ways to the community -- three businesses do all that and more. All three are finalists for the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council's Community Award.
The CBIC says Dominion Digital and Virginia National Bank "exemplify the greatest commitment to improving the quality of life in Central Virginia." So does the third nominee, Northrup Grumman Sperry.
The CBIC annually honors businesses, entrepreneurs and educators throughout the region.
For example, the innovators behind the eco-mod housing project in Charlottesville are nominated for the spotlight award. Eco-mod is a collection of homes with environmentally friendly designs.
It's that kind of thinking that all of the CBIC nominees have in common. The award winners will be announced at a ceremony next month. For a complete list of winners, click on the attachment to this article.
