As students from the Darden School were searching for a Building Goodness site, they found great need in Southwood trailer park.
Students, contractors and Southwood residents spent all of Saturday building two playgrounds in the trailer park, something residents said they desperately needed for their children.
"Around this area, they have to go far away from here so they can play," said Juan Garza, a Southwood resident. "So this will be wonderful for them."
"Their kids were looking for a safe fun place to spend time when they're not in school," said Tremain Wheatley, the Assistant Director of the Building Goodness project. "We realize that would be a way to impact all the residents in the community."
Garza appreciates the project because the play grounds will be there for generations of kids to enjoy.
"It is wonderful the way they come out with such an idea," said Garza. "Trying to help us. For the next generation of kids, you know grandkids. This area is coming along pretty good. After so many years, finally we got some community coming to help us and build a park for our kids."
Now young children will have a safe place to play, right in their backyard.
Building Goodness organizers say identifying projects is one of their biggest challenges. They are taking suggestions for future Building Goodness sites.
