Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris says green space adds value to the city and improves the quality of life in Charlottesville.
Part of the plan he proposed Tuesday (4/14) includes increasing the tree canopy over the city, adding green roofs, and buying more land for parks.
Lawmakers in Richmond passed a bill allowing localities to give developers incentives to include green roofs in projects.
Charlottesville has already reduced fees for developers that use green roofs.
