Police in Orange have yet to make an arrest in the murder of 25-year-old Johnell Green. However, in Charlottesville Federal Court there were some new developments Thursday.
Garian Washington made an initial appearance before a judge. He is charged with possessing a firearm. According to police, Washington shot into the same dwelling where Green was killed. This incident happened before Green's murder and Washington was in jail at the time of the murder. Prosecutors declined to say how the two crimes may be related.
Washington faces a mandatory 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
