The local media are doing their part to make sure area residents are well informed during an emergency.

Newspaper, radio and television media met with emergency management officials to discuss ways to get important information to the public in a timely manner. Emergency officials said this type of communication could help save lives.

"It might be difficult to get the word out if some of our media contacts are unable to send out the signals or broadcast and so we brought a group to the table to try to solve some of the problems that we saw in trying to get news out," said Marge Thomas, the emergency management coordinator.

Emergency officials said this step is necessary in order to work toward a common goal of helping the community.
