Students at Joseph T. Henley Middle School created an odd buzz in Crozet Friday morning.
The "Hornets of Henley" honored one of their former teachers with a school statue.
Jackie Birckhead watched a sculptor erect a hornet at the school's entrance. Members of the School Council Association worked hard on the project, but say it's a perfect way to recognize 25 years of teaching.
She's been here for a very long time, and she's been a big influence to a lot of kids," said Student Council Association President Calvin Wheat.
"It means more than words can express. The thought of children wanting to do something this special for one individual is just beyond overwhelming," said Former Teacher Jackie Birckhead.
This year's SCA students worked with former SCA students on the project after being inspired by Charlottesville's "Art In Place" program.
