A fire destroyed the church on 5th Street Extended in August, but the community is helping the church rebuild. It's still a work in progress, but the pastor of Charlottesville's Church of Christ, said re-construction is coming along well.
The Retail Merchant's Association presented a check for $5,000 to the pastor on Friday.
"Its our responsibility to give back to the community, and to help in the reconstruction of this church," said Marshall Pryor of the Retail Merchant's Association.
"I'm very grateful for everyone, and especially everyone in the business community that blessed us with a $5,000 check," said Reverend Rufus Hayes of the Charlottesville Church of Christ.
The church plans to move into its new sanctuary in March 2007.
