The city of Charlottesville and French city of Besancon joined hands at City Hall Friday morning.
The two cities officially recognized each other as a sister city. Dignitaries of both cities signed a charter distinguishing the two. More than a hundred people watched Mayor David Brown and the French mayor sign the charter after working on it for the last couple years.
A former city councilor who worked on the project said having a sister city is more than a cliche'.
The city of Charlottesville has two other sister cities still standing, and another sister city which is extinct.
