The Charlottesville High School Orchestra is asking for your help in raising money to finance a performance trip to London, England.

The kickoff started Tuesday afternoon on the downtown mall. A total of 140 award-winning students have been invited to compete in the Heritage Festival of Music in April of next year.

"We want to increase their world view; we want to broaden their perspective. We love Charlottesville and we think Charlottesville is a wonderful place, but we also want to take them across the pond and show them off," said Laura Mulligan Thomas, the CHS Orchestra Director.

At the kickoff event, Charlottesville Mayor David Brown said he will be asking the city council to donate $5,000.
