A 17-month-old baby is at the University of Virginia Medical Center after falling out of a window Monday afternoon.
It happened at around 2:15 at the Hearthwood Townhouse Apartments off Michie Drive.
According to police, the baby was in an upstairs bedroom. The window was open, but the screen was in and the shades were down. The mother turned around for a moment, and that is when the child reportedly pushed his way through the screen, falling two and a half stories.
Police said the boy has a skull fracture and bleeding from the brain. Doctors will monitor his condition over the next few hours before deciding if he needs surgery.
