Gas Leak Forced Road Closures in Charlottesville
Several Roads in the area of Poplar Street and Saint Charles Avenue were closed Friday morning as emergency officials responded to a gas leak. There were no injuries and roads have since reopened.

Fire crews went door-to-door in a neighborhood near Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville Friday morning checking out a gas leak. Crews closed down several streets in the area of Poplar Street and Saint Charles Avenue. Crews have since reopened those streets.
Officials have not said what caused the leak, but a road in the area was closed for construction and backhoes were digging up the street.
The Fire Department was prepared to evacuate houses in the area, but no was at home at the time.
