People from all over the world are in Charlottesville this week to look at pictures. The annual Festival of the Photograph kicked off Thursday on the Downtown Mall.
One of the first events was the World Press Photo exhibit; a chronicle of everything over the past year from last summer's Olympics to scenes of death and destruction around the world.
"It is all about photojournalism," explained Michiel Munneke with World Press Photo. "With our competition we try to reflect what is being published in newspapers and magazines, but also online. So it's a wide range."
This year's Festival of the Photo runs through Saturday June 13. For a complete list of events, go to http://look3.org/.
